Basal Cell carcinoma treatments in Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Swansea, Bristol and South Wales

Basal Cell Carcinomas are a type of skin cancer that generally take the form of either a single bump or series of small,  flat bumps. Although it is rare for Basal Cell Carcinomas to spread to other parts of the body, early treatment of the lesion is very important.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is an excellent treatment for many Basal Cell Carcinomas.

Photodynamic Therapy requires the application of a special photosensitising cream and  a dressing is then applied to this area for 3 hours. This is very important as it assists the cream to be absorbed into the abnormal cells. After three hours, the consultant or nurse will remove the dressing and any excess cream.  A special  high intensity red light is then put  into position to illuminate the area that is being treated. This treatment selectively targets and destroys abnormal cells and lasts for about 8- 10 minutes. The process is usually repeated after one week.
